Trying to describe Rush's music is a little like trying to describe abstract art: you can't do it effectively. It's really just a matter of checking it out. The band hasn't played heavy metal as such since the early 1980s but every one of their albums is remarkable and would appeal to anyone who appreciates technical and progressive heavy rock. Rush's early albums up to 1980 comprise their heaviest material from straight-out early British-style metal to more elaborate, truly epic early progressive metal pieces. Many find Lee's vocals excruciating, but few could deny the technical brilliance of all three members of this most enduring of bands.
