Long-serving British metal act Samson are best known as the band in which Bruce Dickinson made his recording debut. While they were considered leaders of the NWOBHM movement and remained a notoriously hard-working band throughout their career, Samson was never able to achieve the success afforded by their better-known contemporaries. In short, Samson had some good material but nothing earth-shattering although Paul Samson was an outstanding guitar player. Samson split in 1985 but reformed in 1990, reappearing in various forms over the years. A new album entitled 'Brand New Day' was due to be released but Paul Samson succumbed to cancer on August 9, 2002 before it could be completed.
