Rising from the grindcore movement of mid-80s north-west England, Carcass invented a sub-genre of their own with their lyrical obsession with pathological diseases and embalming practises -- goregrind. Spawning countless imitators, Carcass evolved toward legitimate death metal with their legendary third album and by Heartwork they were pioneering melodic death metal too. Swansong, while good, pales in comparison to earlier works with a deliberately more accessible sound. More than a decade since they parted ways, Carcass remains one of the most influential extreme metal bands of all.
With Erlandsson on drums, the Heartwork line-up reformed in 2008 for a world tour.
